Yesterday, Empire — Northern Virginia’s premiere music and entertainment venue — located in West Springfield, Va., announced that the business will be closing it’s doors effectively May 5, 2015. Formerly known as Jaxx, the club was host to many types of music genres, including metal, punk, hardcore, alternative rock, rap, and EDM. Owner Jason Malhoyt released the following statement on the venue’s Facebook page regarding the success it has had and his plans for moving forward.
Earlier this year, the Richmond, Va. music and entertainment venue, which was originally known as Alley Katz and had been rebranded as Kingdom under the management of Malhoyt and his former business partner, Tyler Greene, also went out of business without much explanation.
Hey RVA, Kingdom has decided to close its doors. Thanks to the great bands who have played the venue and the music scene for supporting.

As Malhoyt says in the aforementioned statement, “the music will play on,” but with such frequent venue closings throughout Virginia, and even across the country, it will be interesting to see how the landscape of the U.S. music scene changes with less and less established venues hosting local and touring musicians.
