It brings me great displeasure to announce that one of my favorite bands from the local scene has decided to call it quits. Despite several member changes over the past six years, the members of COWABUNGA! have officially decided to part ways and pursue other musical interests.

Guitarist and songwriter Ian Marsh released the following statement:

“We’ve all come to an agreement that COWABUNGA! has run it’s course as a band. Over the past five years, we’ve grown a lot, met a ton of people, played some incredible shows and most importantly, had a blast being in this band. A girl didn’t get between us, we didn’t get in a huge fight, no one has a drug addiction, and we didn’t spend all our money gambling. We simply have come to a place in our lives where we could no longer give the band and the people that listened to us the attention they deserved. Rest assured we’re going to go out with a bang, though! We’re going to play one last show at Empire (6355 Rolling Road, Springfield, VA 22152) on February 15th with a bunch of our friends. As a going away gift to anyone that liked our band, we will be re-recording “Cherry Cola” and giving everyone at the final show the chance to make it on the gang vocals of the new track. Thank you to everyone who ever came to a show, bought a shirt, let us sleep on their floor, showed their friends our band or supported us in any way. We love you all.”
